Freaking out

My hard drive went out and had to be replaced. I swear I backed up my entire hard drive a few months ago just in case this happened....and yet when I put the cd in, it shows all my word documents, but not the pictures. I have looked all over the CD. No pictures. Did I lose them all????????????
